Today’s episode features a general food tour in the city of Udaipur. In this gastronomic sojourn, Anubhav is joined by our gracious host Dr. Akansha Bhatia who is a doctor by profession and a foodie at heart. Together they are visiting some popular destinations to try their best selling or unique fares. Let’s see what’s in store.

They started with a cup of lemon tea from Pandit Ji ki Lemon Tea shop. This invigorating hot beverage was infused with numerous healthy ingredients like tulsi, mint, warming spices etc. True to its popularity,it was so refreshing that we ended up having two cups of it. Pandit ji enthusiastically shared some anecdotes about the place and particularly the tea that is loved by both young and old.

Next they went to Natraj Hotel to try a quintessential thali. The one that is available here is a potpourri of both Rajasthani and Gujarati flavours. What’s fascinating about this place is that the celebrated food explorer and storyteller Anthony Bourdain who is Anubhav’s idol had visited it in the year 2006. Thus it was very much on Anubhav’s wish list. The thali was adorned with simple yet delicious homestyle flavours. Apart from the tasty food it was lovely interacting with the warm hospitable owner.

From there we went to The Egg World which is a hugely famous eatery that serves a delectable range of unique egg dishes. It is run by the genial and humble Jay who with his creativity and diligence has led the eatery to such heights of fame. Under his recommendation, we tried the boiled egg bhurji and tandoori omelette. With its spicy, quintessential Rajasthani flavours, the first dish was simply amazing.

Akansha then took us to Dawat Restaurant whose non veg snacks are super popular because of their fresh and balanced taste. They had an elaborate mouth watering menu. We went for some crisp and juicy chicken dana or nuggets, flavourful chapli kebab and crisp and hearty tilapia fish fry. Each of these three snacks were tasty but with the amazing texture and flavours coming from the chicken mince, eggs, veggies, butter, spices etc, the chapli kebabs were the best among the equal.

After those wonderful non veg treats we reached our last destination, Sai Sagar coffee shop. They serve a wide range of both hot and cold coffee blends along with the classic stuff. We settled for a frothy hot coffee that was strong, smooth and invigorating. The place was busing with an eclectic crowd of locals and tourists.
